Fans At WWE Live Event Boo Footage Of The Rock (VIDEO)
A video has emerged of fans at a WWE live event booing The Rock following what happened on SmackDown.
There has been a lot of emotion shown by WWE fans since the ending of Friday Night Smackdown in Birmingham, AL. Instead of Cody Rhodes telling Roman Reigns that he would challenge him for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the WrestleMania 40 main event, Cody stepped aside and The Rock made a surprise appearance.
When The Rock got into the ring, he shook Cody’s hand and hugged him. Cody left the ring at that point as Rock had a staredown with Roman Reigns. While Rock and Reigns didn’t say a word, it seemed evident that WWE was planning on doing the Roman Reigns-The Rock dream match at WrestleMania 40.
The fan reaction online to WWE’s decision has been negative. A YouTube video featuring Reigns/Rock from Smackdown is the most Disliked video in WWE YouTube history. Meanwhile, the #WeWantCody hashtag was a top trending topic on X/Twitter all day on Saturday and in the number one spot in the US.
It has also been reported that The Rock holds a considerable amount of power as a member of the TKO/WWE Board of Directors, so the fact that he’s likely in a huge match at WrestleMania 40 shouldn’t come as a major surprise.
While many people have wanted to see a match between Roman Reigns and his cousin The Rock for many years, there are people within WWE that question the timing of it.
Video Of The Rock Led To Boos From WWE Fans
On Saturday night, there was a WWE live event in Knoxville, Tennessee that was headlined by Cody Rhodes beating Shinsuke Nakamura in a Street Fight main event.
Before the show began, they showed highlights from Smackdown one night earlier. As you can hear in the video posted on X/Twitter below, the fans were not happy to see The Rock take Cody Rhodes’ spot on Smackdown.
At this point, WWE has yet to officially announce a Reigns match for WrestleMania. This coming Thursday, February 8th, WWE will hold a WrestleMania 40 Kickoff press conference with The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and others in attendance. At that point, fans should learn about what major matches might take place at WrestleMania 40.
