WWE legend Torrie Wilson comments on her wrestling career.

Torrie Wilson was in the Stamford-based promotion for about seven years, from 2001 to 2008, before retiring from full-time wrestling. She also made brief returns later, but her main active period lasted roughly seven years.

One of her most talked-about feuds was with Dawn Marie in 2002-2003, where the storyline included Dawn Marie marrying Torrie’s real-life father as a wrestling plot. The angle included risqué segments like Marie and her husband appearing in their underwear and an absurd “heart attack” storyline.

Wilson was immediately put in a brief storyline with Vince McMahon upon her WWE debut in 2001 that saw her kissing him in front of his wife, Linda McMahon. Wilson has admitted in many interviews that it was uncomfortable for her. She was also involved in many bikini contests and fitness model segments, which brought attention but also contributed to criticism that during her time WWE heavily focused on women’s appearance over wrestling skills.

WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson Had “Mixed Feelings” About Her Time in Wrestling

WWE Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson recently spoke to Aerial Helwani on his show, where she admitted she felt disgusted by most of the abovementioned things she did in the Stamford-based promotion.

She said, “For a long time, I kind of had mixed feelings about my time in wrestling because there was so much about it that I felt like was just, you know, I don’t know about embarrassing, but like I just I just felt yucky, you know, thinking about it. And, so I just kind of closed that door and just had no desire really to do much with it. I did signings here and there, but I just kind of wanted to stay out of that world. It just felt yucky.” (From 6:20)

Despite all the controversial segments and angles, Torrie Wilson is remembered positively for her role as a pioneering female wrestler and entertainer who left a lasting impact on the Stamford-based promotion during a pivotal time for women’s wrestling.
