WWE Legend Details How AJ Lee’s In-Ring Return Should Happen

AJ Lee WWE

AJ Lee’s return to WWE came as one of the most unexpected and talked-about comebacks in recent years.

After leaving the company in 2015, she had distanced herself from the wrestling world, focusing on writing, advocacy, and projects outside the ring. However, with WWE shifting under Triple H’s creative leadership and the rise of women’s wrestling reaching even greater heights, the door was open for a surprise homecoming.

The Black Widow’s return happened on the September 5 edition of Friday Night SmackDown in Chicago, where she confronted Becky Lynch, who had slapped her husband, CM Punk, twice, once on SmackDown and then on RAW.

The couple confronted The Man and her husband, Seth Rollins, again on the September 8 edition of Monday Night RAW, where they challenged them for a mixed tag team at Wrestlepalooza on September 20. This match will mark The Geek Goddess’ in-ring return after ten long years.

Bully Ray on AJ Lee’s In-Ring Return

Speaking on his Busted Open podcast, WWE legend Bully Ray gave his take on how AJ Lee’s in-ring return should be executed. He explained that her comeback would have the most impact if it were saved for a big buildup moment against Becky Lynch inside the ring.

The anticipation would drive the crowd’s excitement, making her first moves a huge payoff. She would not need to perform flashy, risky athletic manoeuvres because the fans would be eager just to see her dominate Lynch in a fiery, thrilling sequence.

This is the easiest thing that they could possibly do, what I’m about to suggest. This is as 101 as pro wrestling gets. The only time AJ Lee gets in the ring is when she blows the comeback on Becky Lynch. That’s just easy. You make the people want it even more. You build to it. You build to it. You build to it, and then you pay it off, and there’s the hot tag, and AJ Lee comes in and she’s kicking a**.

And you keep it really simple because the people are so excited to see her that it doesn’t matter what she does as long as she’s beating up Becky. She doesn’t have to do Canadian destroyers. She doesn’t have to do 450s. She doesn’t have to do an acai moonsault. All she has to do is kick a**. (From 5:48 to 6:33)
