WWE’s Drew McIntyre Mocks Healing Powers Of CM Punk

Drew McIntyre

When it comes to CM Punk, Drew McIntyre is never afraid to take a shot at his biggest WWE rival.

The match between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk at SummerSlam in Cleveland was one of the most highly anticipated WWE matches of the year. The two men went on to have a physical match that saw Seth “Freakin” Rollins also part of the match as the special guest referee.

As most people likely expected, it was a match clouded in controversy since Punk hit McIntyre with a GTS, but Rollins was bumped and unable to make the count right away. Punk was angry about that, so he hit Rollins with a GTS. McIntyre managed to recover, kicked Punk in the groin and hit a Claymore Kick with Rollins counting the pin.

Even though it was a controversial win, McIntyre celebrated by placing his foot on Punk’s chest as the winner.

In an interview with Sam Roberts of Notsam Wrestling prior to SummerSlam, Punk referenced the popular “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie when talking about Punk’s injury problems and mocking how long it took Punk to come back from a torn triceps injury.

“I can just be thankful that, talk about something topical since ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is pretty big right now. A torn tricep takes about three, four months to recover from. Thankfully, Punk is, when it comes to recovering, the opposite of Wolverine [laughs]. It allowed me to really take this story all the way.”

Punk suffered the torn triceps at the Royal Rumble in late January, had surgery about a week later, and came back to the ring six months later at SummerSlam.

Drew McIntyre Says It’s Important To Keep Building Momentum

McIntyre continued by talking about how it was important to keep the momentum going in the rivalry even while Punk missed six months of action.

“Knowing and trusting our creative process now, myself as a performer, as much crap as I give Punk, rightfully so, he does know this industry, his brain is his gift, as psychotic as it is, and yeah, that’s something in the past I’ve been really worried about, keeping that momentum, but just knowing the process and trusting the process now with the team that we have, I know that we can keep elevating and elevating.”

“Sometimes, I get told, ‘Maybe save this for another week.’ I’m thinking, ‘No, I’ll do it this week, and then I’ll top it next week.’ That’s my job, to keep elevating and elevating.”
