The upcoming SummerSlam PLE is the hottest subject in wrestling today.

For the first time in its history, the event will take place across two days on August 2 & 3.

Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena will face King of the Ring Tournament winner Cody Rhodes in the main event on August 3 for the title.

It was at WrestleMania 41 when Cena defeated Rhodes to become the 17-time world champion, eclipsing Ric Flair.

Fans have called for Cody Rhodes to turn heel, as he has been a babyface since his return to the Stamford promotion in 2022.

Former WWE creative writer Vince Russo doubled up on the fan sentiments, calling for a double turn, with Cena reverting to his babyface persona, too.

During a recent Sportskeeda Wrestling’s BroDown podcast, Russo explained why the change was necessary.

The reality of the situation is they need to do a double turn. Cody is a freaking heel. Cody has been a heel from day one and maybe if they turn Cody heel, that will force them to reset everything [30:29 onwards]

WWE Has No Current Plans To Turn Cody Rhodes Heel

If Bodyslam‘s latest report is anything to go by, then Vince Russo and the fans who wish to see Cody Rhodes turn heel will be left disappointed by the end of SummerSlam.

It reports that WWE is apprehensive about turning Rhodes heel due to his popularity among fans, which drives merchandise and ticket sales.

Even The Rock pushed for The American Nightmare’s heel turn earlier in the year, only for his pitch to be rejected by WWE’s creative.
