WWE Quietly Changed Dominik Mysterio’s Character

Dominik Mysterio is a beloved heel in WWE.

Although ‘beloved’ and ‘heel’ do not often go together in wrestling, it is a rare feat for any wrestler to achieve, one being Eddie Guerrero back in the day.

Week after week, the Intercontinental Champion seems to dig himself a bigger hole and, to everyone’s surprise, comes out unscathed.

His recent singles matches against Penta and Rusev are great examples, which he won despite the odds being stacked against him.

Similarly, at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he wrestled both wrestlers under triple threat rules and won.

WWE personality Sam Roberts discussed Dominik Mysterio’s transition on his Notsam Wrestling podcast recently, believing that the 28-year-old superstar is now a babyface.

In doing so, he highlighted how the commentary during his recent matches has changed when compared to the last couple of years.

Here’s the big difference: the commentators were putting Dominik over as smart. Michael Cole was putting Dominik over as smart. There was a time when Michael Cole would say, ‘that b*stard,’ ‘that idiot,’ ‘what a worm,’ ‘what a sneak;’ now, Michael Cole was putting over what a genius move it was for Dominik Mysterio.

That was because Dom’s changing. Because there’s the recognition of the fact that the fans are cheering for Dominik Mysterio. Dominik Mysterio is a babyface. [57:23 onwards]

Dominik Mysterio Comes Face-To-Face Against His Father On WWE RAW

Rey Mysterio made his much-anticipated return to WWE on Monday. He had been away since April 2025 after suffering an injury during a SmackDown taping.

Rey not only made his triumphant return but also confronted his son, Dominik, for constantly claiming that he is the greatest luchador.

While the segment seemed to have ended in a war of words, Dominik attacked Rey, but faced retaliation in the form of a headscissors that sent him into the ropes. Rey followed it up with a 619.
