Former WWE Champion Wishes Goldberg Match Could Happen
A former WWE Champion wants to step into the ring with Goldberg even though it seems unlikely that it would happen.
The current WWE roster is considered by many people to be one of the deepest rosters in the history of the company. Many of the wrestlers in the company grew up as fans of pro wrestling in the beloved Attitude Era of WWE that saw Raw go head to head against WCW Monday Nitro every Monday.
One of the big names on the WCW roster at the time was Bill Goldberg, who was arguably the biggest star in the company thanks to an impressive 173-0 undefeated streak that also saw him win the WCW World Title from Hulk Hogan.
While Goldberg’s last match was at WWE Elimination Chamber 2022 when he lost to the Universal Champion Roman Reigns, the WWE Hall of Famer plans to step into the ring again this summer.
After undergoing stem cell therapy to help his body prepare for that one final match, the 58-year-old Goldberg had a positive update for fans earlier in March.
“I feel like a trillion bucks. Whether it’s from the stuff that I altered my life prior or the stem cell treatment after a day. I feel like a million bucks, comparatively. You have to be logical, but it’s like you’re a racehorse again, and you’re being held in a stall, and you can’t come out for a period of time.
I have a match sometime this summer. I don’t know exactly when it is, but I know it’s coming up and I know at 58 years old I have to be in my underwear in front of everybody and I hold a very high standard of myself. I need to get to work yesterday. The long-term benefit and the benefit for me in the ring will be much more if I just calm my ass down.”
Big E Would Love To Have A Goldberg Match In WWE
Prior to being a pro wrestler, Goldberg was a successful college football player who made it in the NFL for a few years before becoming a wrestler in the late 1990s. Big E is also a former college football player who got into pro wrestling when his football career ended.
Unfortunately for former WWE Champion Big E, he has been on the injured list since March 2022 due to breaking his neck in a tag team match when he took a belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the floor. Big E landed on his head and he hasn’t been able to wrestle since then.
In an interview with IGN while promoting the WWE 2K25 video game, Big E was asked about who wishes he could wrestle and he singled out Goldberg.
“I’ve been pretty fortunate to wrestle everyone, a lot of people from the roster. Maybe I think Goldberg, we’ve had some interactions, but I think it would have been so beautifully and weirdly full circle to get a chance to wrestle my childhood idol.
I got a chance to meet him at a signing in the late 90s when I was still a kid. So a chance to wrestle Goldberg would have been very, very cool.”
Since being unable to wrestle, Big E has done commentary work for WWE on pre and post-PLE shows.
