Will Ospreay Announced For NJPW Royal Quest

Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay is the latest name to be announced for NJPW’s UK show.

As announced by New Japan on Friday, August 18th, Ospreay joins IWGP Heavyweight Champion SANADA and G1 Climax 33 winner Tatsuya Naito as the confirmed names for the October 14th show at The Copperbox Arena in London.

The announcement is the IWGP United States Champion’s latest appearance in his home city of London following a doubleheader on August 26th and 27th. On Saturday, Ospreay will be appearing at Rev Pro on their 11th-anniversary show, facing off against Shingo Takagi. 24 hours later, The Ariel Assassin will compete in the match of his career at AEW All in, facing off against Chris Jericho for the first time ever in front of over 80,000 fans in attendance.

Will Ospreay Alters New Japan Title

Despite currently reigning as the United States Champion in Japan, Ospreay wants nothing to do with the USA. Sick of carrying around a championship with the American flag on it, Ospreay has since rebranded the title as the IWGP United Kingdom Championship.

The second reign with the championship came when The Ariel Assassin would finally get his revenge on Kenny Omega. Following a defeat to Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 17, Ospreay was laser-focused on the rematch, wanting nothing more than to prove he can defeat the former AEW World Champion. The rematch was set for the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, where Ospreay was victorious over Omega and walked out of Toronto with the championship.

Not a part of the original All In, Ospreay has revealed why this was the case.

Having now set the record for the most 5* Dave Meltzer-rated matches in wrestling history, Ospreay will hope to increase the lead in 2023.

Update – following the conclusion of the G1 Climax, Ospreay has now increased his tally to 27 five-star plus matches.
