Why Major NXT Star Rejected WWE Main Roster Deal

Triple H WWE

One major NXT star has revealed they turned down the chance to jump straight to the WWE main roster when they joined the company.

Stephanie Vaquer lost her NJPW STRONG Women’s Title to AEW’s Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door, but she was about to walk through the most forbidden door of all.

Almost immediately after that loss, it became clear Vaquer was WWE-bound as she rejected AEW’s advances to join their company instead.

Stephanie Vaquer Says WWE Was Her Dream

Speaking on an episode of Busted Open After Dark, Stephanie Vaquer discussed why she signed with WWE instead of AEW before revealing she was actually offered a WWE main roster deal. However, Vaquer knew she had things she needed to overcome so made the decision to start out in NXT:

My dream. WWE is my dream… I tried to think like adult, that option. But WWE is my dream and say, okay, this is for me. Many options and talks but, say no. WWE is for me and I take NXT because I really like (to) do things or new things but good. I don’t like the fast and no good.

So, I say okay, I need to learn English, I need to learn TV show, I need to learn American style, WWE style. So I say, first I say main roster. That changed and say, ‘I want to go to NXT for learn…’ Yeah (WWE asked me if I wanted to start on the main roster)… Main roster (was my first answer). The first call, they call me and say, ‘NXT or main roster?’ I say, ‘Main roster…’ Yeah, I think and say, ‘Okay. Take it easy. I need to learn English… Okay, change. NXT.’

The decision has proved to be a fruitful one so far with Stephanie Vaquer capturing the NXT Women’s North American Championship just 4 months after making her TV debut. Stephanie Vaquer could win even more gold as she is set for a huge double title match against NXT Women’s Champion Giulia at Roadblock on March 11.
