Update On WWE WrestleMania 39 Main Event Plans
A new report has given the latest update on WWE’s plans for the main event of WrestleMania 39 following the epic events at Elimination Chamber.
Cody Rhodes booked his place in the main event of WrestleMania 39 when he returned from injury to win the men’s Rumble match as the 30th entrant. Roman Reigns has held the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship for over 900 days and a straightforward encounter between the two men seems like the most straightforward booking for the company – but nobody accounted for the runaway popularity of Sami Zayn.
At Elimination Chamber in front of a red-hot Montreal crowd, Zayn did battle with Reigns after turning his back on The Tribal Chief at the Royal Rumble for Reigns’ championship. Ultimately though, assistance from Jimmy Uso and a mistimed spear to Jey Uso allowed Reigns to floor Zayn and pick up the win.
With echoes of 2014 in people’s minds when WWE added Daniel Bryan to the WrestleMania main event despite not being the original plan, many have wondered if a Triple Threat match could still be in the works for Los Angeles. However, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that currently, the singles match between Rhodes and Reigns is still the plan:
“I know what the plan was as of, even a week ago, and it was Roman and Cody. It’s not Sami being thrown in.
“Could they do it? They could always change. I thought watching the Cody interview with Sami (on Monday’s WWE Raw), ‘Maybe you do make it a three-way.’ Look, I was told they weren’t going to do anything with the Sami thing, but you always go…it could always change.”
