Tony Khan In Favour Of Social Media Jabs Between AEW And WWE
Tony Khan is all for AEW and WWE stars trading shots on social media.
Since the launch of AEW in 2019, stars and employees on both sides of wrestling’s great divide have repeatedly taken shots at the opposition on social media as well as on television. Meanwhile, Tony Khan has become known for getting involved in the fun, never missing an opportunity to have fun at WWE’s expense.
While appearing on The Rocker Morning Show, Khan was asked whether he thought these jabs were healthy for wrestling. The AEW boss explained he felt the barbed posts were part of a healthy rivalry and the result of strong competition.
In the 90’s, certainly, I do think a lot of that helped fuel the wresting economy, but it was a very different time and things weren’t all online. Everybody wasn’t online all the time. It was a very different time for wrestling and a different time to be a sports fan. It’s changed for sports. Those rivalries and debates in sports are healthy.
I think for wrestling, too, it’s a big part, for better or worse of wrestling fandom now. It’s definitely a way that people keep up on the shows and watch the shows. For me, I’m a big fan of that. I love promoting the shows online. I know that our wrestlers are really engaged socially. It makes for healthy competition, I think,”
Tony Khan Facing Unusual Challenge
Away from WWE, Tony Khan is facing a challenge from an unusual source in the form of NJPW star EVIL.
In a recent interview, the number one contender for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title said he wanted to meet Khan face-to-face at Forbidden Door in June.
Elsewhere, Tony Khan didn’t fully rule out getting in the ring. Although the AEW boss did admit it would be highly unlikely while discussing his ongoing issues with The Elite.
At NJPW Dominion on June 9th, EVIL will challenge Jon Moxley for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title.
