Tony Khan Believes AEW & WWE Have “A Wrestling War”
Tony Khan claims that there is a “real war” going on between AEW and WWE.
AEW’s top boss has been discussing the wrestling landscape and believes that the hatred between both AEW and WWE creates better wrestling and content for fans.
During an appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show, Khan shared that his business model was to create an ongoing battle and establish a rivalry with WWE.
“I think we truly, truly hate each other and I think it makes for really exciting TV and it makes for an exciting wrestling war.”
Paul Levesque (Triple H) is regularly linked to numerous former WWE and NXT superstars that are now under contract in AEW. Last year, Levesque admitted that he is aware of what AEW are doing, but is yet to enter into a public battle with the Florida-based opposition.
According to reports, AEW’s legal department sent an email to Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan, warning them of alleged contract tampering amidst approaches toward AEW talent. Tony Khan shared what we knew about it.
“I only know what people have come to me and alleged. But, I do know it’s a real war between AEW and WWE and the fans are interested in it and that was part of the original business model of AEW was I knew wrestling fans, frankly, are very interested in wrestling free agency and wrestling wars and I believe we could create a free agent market that is definitely a real thing now and that would be a big part of the story.”
Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley are amongst the biggest names to have left WWE and join Tony Khan’s AEW since its launch in January 2019.
Cody Rhodes became the first former AEW World Heavyweight Champion to head back to WWE, making his comeback at last years WrestleMania.
With Rhodes set to main event this year’s Showcase of the Immortals, fans will be eager to see if other AEW talent chooses to follow and work under the leadership of Levesque.
