Some new details have emerged regarding Vince McMahon’s power play to return to WWE that led to the ouster of his daughter Stephanie.

The last year has been very interesting for WWE’s McMahon family in terms of the power plays that have been made. In May 2022, Stephanie McMahon announced that she was taking a leave of absence from her role in WWE as the Chief Brand Officer. In late 2021, her husband Paul “Triple H” Levesque suffered a heart attack, so she had to deal with that while also trying to raise the couple’s three daughters.

Fast forward to July 22, 2022 when Vince McMahon retired as the WWE Chairman and CEO due to the revelation that he spent over $12 million in “hush money” payments regarding numerous sexual activities with female employees over the last 20 years. That brought a lot of negative attention to WWE so at 77 years old, Vince retired.

It was actually a month before Vince’s retirement that in June 2022 when Stephanie was appointed the WWE Chairwoman and Co-CEO along with Nick Khan as the other Co-CEO.

To start 2023, Vince McMahon has returned to the company with the intention to try to sell it since he’s the majority stakeholder. In the early evening of January 10, 2023, Stephanie resigned as WWE Chairwoman & CEO and was also removed from the Board of Directors as well.

In an update on the Vince-Stephanie fallout, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer wrote about how Stephanie was essentially forced out because of the actions of her father.

“On 1/5, when he got back power, Vince did a filing which included changes in bylaws giving him the power in writing to remove anyone from the Board at any time, either with or without cause, and the power to add new people.”

“Vince’s replacing Stephanie as Chairman of the Board was actually on 1/9, as was the unanimous vote with Stephanie off the board. Her letter of resignation from the company was taken officially the next day. Essentially she was removed from her position and then Vince was voted in unanimously.”

“Stephanie announced she was leaving, but unlike the first time, this was a complete break. It was not a leave of absence but a resignation. And she gave up her position on the Board of Directors.”

What isn’t known is if Stephanie was aware of her father’s actions, how she truly feels about those actions, and if she saw this coming.
