The Rock Called Out By NJPW Champion

The Rock

The Rock may be considered a WWE legend, but there is a current NJPW champion who issued a challenge to the People’s Champion.

At WrestleMania 40 Saturday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stepped back into the WWE ring for his first match in eight years. Since that 2016 match was just one move, WrestleMania 40 was actually Rock’s first long match in 11 years.

During that WrestleMania 40 Saturday main event, The Rock showed no sign of ring rust as he teamed up with Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes & Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Not only that, but Rock also pinned Rhodes to win the match. That’s the same Cody Rhodes who, one night later, beat Roman Reigns to become the WWE Champion.

WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas is ten months away, but there are already rumors that WWE is planning to have The Rock face Cody Rhodes at that event. That could be Rock’s next match unless he has plans to return sooner.

Meanwhile, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd also has Rocky on his mind since he’s challenged the People’s Champion to a match during an interview with WrestleThings.

“Hey, f**k The Rock as well. I’ll beat the s**t out of The Rock. I’ll slap the sh*t out of The Rock, little part-timer. You want some real wrestling, come to New Japan.”

Kidd, who is not afraid to say what’s on his mind, also challenged Randy Orton to a match as well.

Neither match seems likely since WWE doesn’t have any sort of working relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling, but nothing is stopping a wrestler like Kidd from making bold challenges like that.

The Rock Has A Different Look In New Film

In his time away from WWE, Rocky is keeping busy making a new movie called The Smashing Machine, which is about former UFC fighter Mark Kerr.

When Johnson the photo of what he looked like as Kerr in the film, it got a lot of attention because it made the former WWE Champion look unrecognizable. That’s the magic of Hollywood.
