Sheamus Explains How He “P***ed Off” Top Guys In WWE

Sheamus

Sheamus has opened up about rubbing some WWE top guys the wrong way.

The WWE feud between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan – now best known as Bryan Danielson in AEW – is one littered with footnotes. In 2011, the two men fought over the US Championship but that match failed to make the WrestleMania 27 card and was instead bumped to the pre-show.

One year later, they met again on the grandest stage of them all, this time with Bryan’s World Heavyweight Title on the line. Sheamus needed one Brogue Kick to win the title in 18 seconds in a match that accidentally began Bryan’s ascent to the top of the company.

The fan support launched Bryan into a new stratosphere and instead of him clashing with Sheamus again at WrestleMania 30, WWE could not avoid putting him into the WrestleMania main event and have him emerge as WWE World Heavyweight Title as he defeated Batista and Randy Orton.

“People were telling us you need to calm down” – Sheamus

Speaking to the Metro, Sheamus opened up about his feud with Daniel Bryan and says the two men were trying to break through in the company by taking physicality to a whole new level:

“I remember me and Daniel Bryan, we were killing each other. I remember one time we had a live event just before ‘Mania in Atlanta, this is before we found out we got bumped to that pre-show at WrestleMania 27. I remember going for the Brogue, and just half of my foot went through – my left foot went through the middle and top and it spun me upside down. I ended up like a hangman with my leg, I was over on the apron.

“He just got this kendo stick and he beat the s**t out of my leg! No joke, he beat the crap out of it. It was mental! My ankle was, like, bleeding this size. But we didn’t complain! I hit him just as hard in the ring, we were just two lads trying to break the glass ceiling.”

Sheamus then revealed that their hard-hitting style rubbed some big stars in the company the wrong way and they were told to calm down in the ring as a result:

“People were telling us, “Oh you need to relax, you need to calm down!” Why? Why would we calm down? To make you feel better? To make you feel better about your match? Because you have to follow us, right? So I’m having this crazy physical match with D-Bry – me and him, just the chemistry we had and the different styles, the technical high flyer against the big brawler.

“So you had guys going out afterwards – I’m not gonna tell you who they were, but top guys – and they’re p***ed off with us because they had to follow that. They’re going out doing this tippy-tappy s***e and we’re in there kicking the crap out of each other, marks all over us.”

Although Sheamus and Bryan Danielson are now in separate companies, both stars have proved that they are still happy to get physical in the ring. Danielson is currently on the injured list after suffering a broken arm at Forbidden Door while Sheamus will have the chance to get physical with Edge when they clash on SmackDown.
