Samoa Joe Faces First AEW World Title Challenge
Samoa Joe is finding out how lonely life is at the top as several stars have made clear they’re coming for the AEW World Championship.
Samoa Joe captured the AEW World Title from MJF at Worlds End, bringing an end to The Salt of the Earth’s record-setting reign.
Now on the Homecoming edition of Dynamite, Samoa Joe was faced with several stars who made clear they wanted a shot at the title. Joe addressed the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, and said changes to championship protocol were in effect indicating that those with a record and reputation will be accepted as challengers.
Three AEW Stars Set Sights On Samoa Joe’s AEW Title
Swerve Strickland made his way to the ring with the Mogul Embassy to make his intentions clear, telling Samoa Joe that it was nothing personal but he wanted the AEW World Title. Hangman Adam Page was next out but kept his eyes fixed on Strickland as he warned that he wanted back in the mix for the AEW World Title, but neither of those men would be first to challenge Joe.
HOOK made his way to the ring and got straight in Joe’s face simply telling the champion “One week” as he pointed at Joe’s title. Joe and HOOK are now set to face off for the gold on the 17th of January edition of Dynamite.
HOOK had made his intentions to go after Samoa Joe clear in a video shown days before his face-to-face confrontation with Joe. That ended up causing Tony Khan to go after WWE and Jinder Mahal after criticism came from some quarters over HOOK receiving the title shot.
