Sami Zayn Kept Away From Roman Reigns Before Triple H Took Charge
Sami Zayn has indicated that previous management didn’t think much of him paired on-screen with Roman Reigns, saying things changed when Triple H took over.
For months now Sami Zayn’s association with The Bloodline and his relationship with Roman Reigns has gripped WWE fans. At Survivor Series WarGames in November 2022, things seemed to settle down as Zayn made sure his old friend Kevin Owens was neutralised and allowed Jey Uso to pick up the win for their team.
But Reigns’ doubts persisted and at the Royal Rumble, Zayn was given one final test by his Tribal Chief. After Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in the main event, The Bloodline viciously assaulted Owens, handcuffing him helplessly to the ropes.
Roman Reigns handed Sami Zayn a chair and ordered him to use it on Owens but a conflicted Zayn cracked it over the back of Reigns instead to the delight of the San Antonio crowd. Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa then beatdown Zayn but Jey Uso could only walk away from the scene before suggesting online that he’s done with his family’s group.
The story is at the forefront of fans’ minds as WrestleMania season begins but according to Sami Zayn, the story might never have been in the first place.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani of BT Sport Sami Zayn noted that before Triple H took control of creative in the company, he was kept away from Roman Reigns on-screen:
“I can’t say because I genuinely do not know, but I know before Triple H was on creative, I never got on screen with Roman. Then when Triple H did get [on creative] I finally did get on screen with Roman. Whether that’s a coincidence, because like I said, the first time I finally did get on screen with Roman, [which] took the story to the next level, happened to be a lot of stars lining up, The Usos weren’t there, Heyman wasn’t there, it was in Montreal, all these things.”
“Would that have happened if Hunter wasn’t in charge? I don’t know. All I know is I can definitely point to the time he wasn’t in charge and say I was kept away from being on screen with Roman. Then once he was in charge, all of a sudden, I’m on screen and it’s allowed to breathe and see where it goes.”
“Because if I do get on screen with Roman and we start doing stuff with The Usos, and all that, and it’s not really working, then okay, you go somewhere else, but because it got it started to work, it got room to breathe. As it breathed it grew. Whether that would have happened without him? I don’t know, but probably not.”
It looks like Sami Zayn will be sharing the screen once again very soon with Roman Reigns with a new report suggesting the Elimination Chamber main event is all but confirmed.
