Ryback Plots Wrestling Return, Wants To Face AEW Star

Ryback WWE

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ryback is planning a return to the ring and names one AEW star he wants to face off with.

After a spell on the WWE roster as Skip Sheffield, Ryback burst onto the scene in 2012 going on a huge undefeated run that culminated in a WWE Championship match with CM Punk. The star was unsuccessful in that endeavour but he later became Intercontinental Champion in the company although his time in WWE came to an end in 2016 under something of a cloud due to a contract dispute.

Since then Ryback has competed on the independent scene but has not stepped in a ring in anger since 2018 but that could be about to change.

Speaking to MuscleManMalcolm, the former WWE star revealed he now has control over the Ryback trademark and wants to get back to wrestling in 2023:

“Yeah, [getting back to the ring is] the goal, I think. I finally won my Ryback trademark for everything. We’re just waiting for the official documentation, which might be a few more months, but once that documentation is in my hands, we will be able to move forward and do business. I’m finally healthy. I’m back and this is the year.”

As for who he wants to face, The Big Man revealed that former TNT Champion Wardlow could make for an interesting match-up:

“There’s a lot of guys that I have my eye on. Wardlow piques my interest, and I think there’s a big opportunity right there. I’m a fan of what he’s doing and what he’s done. I like people that can come from nothing and get people on their side. That caught my eye early on, so he’s a homegrown AEW talent that hasn’t been in the ring with anyone like Ryback yet.”

Wardlow lost the TNT Championship to Samoa Joe back in December 2022 and he has his sights set on Joe once again after confronting the King of Television on the 1st of February edition of AEW Dynamite.
