Roman Reigns On Two Years As Universal Champion: “A Run Like Never Before”
The ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns is celebrating two years as the WWE Universal Champion by calling his memorable reign “a run like never before.”
It was August 30, 2020 at the WWE Payback Premium Live Event when Roman Reigns challenged “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman for the Universal Title held by Wyatt. One week earlier at SummerSlam 2020, Reigns made his return to WWE in the ThunderDome when he attacked both men to end the show. Days later on Smackdown, Reigns was shown with “Special Counsel” Paul Heyman to show that Reigns was now a heel in WWE.
During the triple threat No Holds Barred match at Payback, Reigns his “Wreck Everyone & Leave” t-shirt during the entire match. Reigns ended up winning the match and the Universal Title when he pinned Strowman after hitting him with a devastating Spear.
Ever since that night in the ThunderDome, Reigns has had a dominant run as the Universal Champion. Some of the names that Reigns has defeated over the last two years include Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Bill Goldberg, Riddle and even cousin Jey Uso. Reigns did not beat Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble 2022 because Seth won by disqualification, but Reigns ended up keeping his title.
At WrestleMania 38 in April, the Head of the Table also added the WWE Title to his belt collection when he defeated Brock Lesnar. Since then, Reigns has been called the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
In addition to Reigns carrying two championships, his cousins The Usos also hold the Raw & Smackdown Tag Team Titles. Together with Heyman, they are known as The Bloodline with Sami Zayn also as an honorary member of the group.
Reigns commented on his two-year run of dominance on Twitter.
A run like never before.

To continue the celebration of Roman’s run as the Universal and WWE Champion, the company has announced that this Friday’s episode of Smackdown will celebrate the two years of the Tribal Chief’s dominance. WWE also released a video of Roman’s Top 10 moments during this run as The Tribal Chief.
This coming Saturday, September 3rd at Clash at the Castle, Reigns will defend his two championships against Drew McIntyre in Cardiff, Wales. There have been reports that WWE is considering a title change in the United Kingdom that would put an end to this 700+ day run for Reigns.
