Rey Mysterio’s WWE Return Pushed Back

Rey Mysterio will be back soon.

Back in November, it was revealed that Rey Mysterio would be out of action for several weeks after being written off television. On November 10th, the star was attacked by Santos Escobar with the beatdown to cover for a real-life knee injury.

Mysterio later underwent surgery to repair the damage — something he’d been working with for a number of months.

At the time, the WWE Hall of Famer was expecting to be back in action quickly, but he’s been forced to wait on the sidelines. Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Mysterio had hoped to be back by the end of January, but despite this, a return is “close.”

“Rey Mysterio’s return now looks to be in a few weeks. He was hoping for late January but is pretty close to being ready to return.”

Rey Mysterio Pens New WWE Deal During Absence

Although he’s been unable to wrestle, in December it was reported that Rey Mysterio had signed a new WWE contract. The new contract is believed to be for three more years, which all but confirms that the veteran has put his retirement plans on hold.

Mysterio previously claimed he would retire at 50, and he turned 49 in December 2023.

The update noted that the Lucha legend plans to wrestle for the duration of his contract despite his well-documented injury struggles.
