Major Update On Randy Orton’s Recent Back Surgery, No Timetable For Return
There is an unfortunate update with regard to the back injury that Randy Orton is dealing with and the uncertain future of the WWE legend.
Randy Orton has been out of action for the past six months. During his last run in WWE, Orton was teaming with Matt Riddle regularly as the popular team known as RK-Bro. Their last match on television was on the May 20th edition of Smackdown when The Usos beat RK-Bro to unify the Raw & Smackdown Tag Team Titles.
Earlier in November, Randy Orton’s wife Kim shared a photo of Orton looking very tired in a hospital bed as they celebrated seven years of marriage. The photo that Kim posted was on November 14, which is the date of their anniversary, but not necessarily the date when Orton was in the hospital.
Orton’s close friend Kurt Angle also talked about Randy recently having back surgery, but there weren’t many details until now.
It has been reported by Fightful Select that Orton is likely not headed back to WWE any time soon. The surgery that Orton was a fusion in his lower back that is expected to keep the master of the RKO out of action for an “extended period of time.” The surgery has already happened although the date of the surgery isn’t known at this time.
There are some people within WWE that told Fightful they’d be fortunate to have Orton back at all after a long career in WWE and the significance of the injury for the 42-year-old Orton, who started training to wrestle at OVW in 2000.
Randy Orton debuted on Smackdown in 2002, so he’s had a 20-year career while talking about wanting to wrestle until he’s 50, so that he can have a 30-year career as a wrestler.
The report from Figthful went on to say that when the injury initially happened, Orton felt like he would eventually return. However, there is no timetable for Orton’s return or any creative plans in place for him.
It was also noted that Orton’s WWE contract lasts through 2024 although it’s unknown if WWE would be able to add time to the contract or freeze it due to the injury and long absence.
Everybody here at TJRWrestling wishes Randy Orton all the best as he tries to come back from this major back injury.
