Original Plans For AEW Worlds End Title Match Revealed

Samoa Joe MJF AEW

MJF faced a double heartbreak at AEW Worlds End and now Dave Meltzer has revealed if his injuries caused a major title change.

Samoa Joe is the new AEW World Champion as he choked out MJF at Worlds End. After the match, however, worse was to come for The Salt of the Earth as Adam Cole revealed he was The Devil all along as his masked men also confirmed who they were.

Wardlow, Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett unmasked themselves before launching into another attack on MJF as Cole threw down The Devil mask next to the fallen former champion.

Since then reports have emerged that MJF is set for time off from AEW as he deals with injury issues but this is not what caused the AEW World Title change according to Dave Meltzer.

Dave Meltzer Says MJF AEW Title Loss Always The Plan

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed the original plans for the AEW Title match at Worlds End and confirmed things didn’t change because of MJF’s condition:

Even before Max got hurt, Joe was always gonna win the title on this show. In that sense, the title did not change hands because he’s hurt, it was always the plan.

As far as what happens next, my gut is they’re probably gonna go to Joe and Swerve [Strickland].

Worlds End also saw the first winner of the Continental Classic crowned as Eddie Kingston overcame his friend Jon Moxley to claim the Continental Crown.
