MJF Reveals True AEW Contract Status

MJF AEW

AEW World Champion MJF has long touted himself as the subject of the bidding war of 2024 and it looks like the war could be on.

All has gone fairly quiet on AEW television in recent months about MJF touting himself to the highest bidder ever since Adam Cole got The Salt of the Earth to embrace being the people’s scumbag. No longer does the AEW World Champion brag about the untold riches he could receive by jumping to WWE, but that doesn’t mean it still can’t happen.

Many believed that MJF signed a long-term deal with AEW some time ago and that it has been kept quiet for the sake of his character but the man himself says that’s just not true.

Speaking on the SI Media podcast, MJF claimed that what he has said all along about his AEW contract remains true and he has not yet signed a new deal with the company:

I’ve been saying the same thing (about my contract expiration date). I never lied. January 1st, 2024. When stuff like that gets leaked out, it makes me laugh because I remember something leaked out about Cody (Rhodes) having secretly re-signed and then he showed up (in WWE).

Something got leaked out about, you know, CM Punk and Tony Khan or you know… I think fans leak out things that they want to be true. I love AEW, I wanna stay in AEW. After this pay-per-view (Worlds End), it’s time to assess the situation for a professional setting. So… not yet (I haven’t re-signed).

MJF Could Cause Nightmare Scenario For Tony Khan

That could spell big trouble for Tony Khan if true given that Worlds End takes place on December 30 and he could face the nightmare scenario of having his AEW World Champion able to walk into another company immediately. That is, of course, unless Samoa Joe defeats MJF for the title at that event.

Much has been made over whether or not MJF would get to be his true self in WWE should he make the jump and the star himself has no idea how anyone could ever tell him exactly what to do:

I just don’t know how the f*ck you put a leash on me and I swear to God, that’s my honest opinion. I’m sorry I’ve now cursed twice… I don’t think anybody can hold me back from being the monster I am. I think my career trajectory in any company is going to be exactly the same.

Do I think in some aspects, AEW fits me like a glove more so than anywhere else? Yeah, I do. Could an argument be made the other way around? Yeah, I’m sure. These are all things I have to think about. What I do know, whatever company I pick, it will be because it feels right and it means the most to me.

MJF faces Samoa Joe for the AEW World Title at Worlds End and Samoa Joe has issued a stark warning to MJF about what to expect at that event.
