Maxwell Jacob Friedman aka MJF isn’t shy when it comes to being proud of his work and now the scarf-wearing villain is calling one of his AEW rivalries an all-time great wrestling feud.

When CM Punk arrived in AEW in August 2021, some of his biggest matches early on were with Darby Allin and Eddie Kingston. Within a few months, MJF stepped up to trade verbal barbs with Punk leading to several big matches between the two men along with some memorable promo exchanges as well.

There was a long build leading up to their first match together, which was on the February 2, 2022 edition of Dynamite in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. MJF got the win on that night (Punk’s first loss in AEW) because of an assist from his bodyguard Wardlow. However, that MJF-Wardlow allegiance would disintegrate in the months ahead so when they met at Revolution on March 6th, Punk got the win in a Dog Collar Match because Wardlow didn’t want to help MJF this time. That was the end of the rivalry.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Youtube, MJF was asked about the former AEW World Champion CM Punk, who is currently out of action for about eight months after arm surgery. Even if Punk wasn’t injured, he would likely be suspended due to the backstage fight he was involved in following All Out. MJF refused to talk about the backstage fight, but MJF did make a bold claim about the rivalry that Punk-MJF had:

“What I will say is that me and CM Punk had the greatest feud in the history of the company and I honestly think it will go down as one of the greatest feuds of all-time.”

For what it’s worth, Helwani agreed with MJF’s claim while a lot of AEW fans may agree with it too.

MJF addressed many other tops during his interview with Helwani including his claim that former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley is overrated. MJF also made it clear that he cares about the money regarding the future “bidding war of 2024” when it comes to his wrestling services.
