MJF On Current AEW Status: “All I Care About Is Money”
Maxwell Jacob Friedman is not shy when it comes to expressing himself as the AEW wrestler (known simply as MJF) made clear in a recent interview saying he’s all about going to whoever pays the most money.
It is well known that MJF’s AEW contract expires in January 2024 mainly because he has said it many times including last week on the September 14 episode of Dynamite. When MJF brings it up he usually refers to it as “the bidding war of 2024.”
Earlier in 2022 going into May’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, MJF was apparently frustrated enough in AEW that he skipped a meet & greet session while there were legit questions about whether he would show up to the PPV at all. MJF did show up to put over Wardlow in quick fashion, then he delivered a memorable, scathing promo on the following Dynamite and spent the next three months at home.
At AEW All Out on September 4th, MJF “won” a Casino Ladder Match while wearing a mask that covered his face thanks to Stokely Hathaway and The Firm stable which means MJF gets a shot at the AEW World Title whenever he wants it. In the weeks since All Out, MJF has done promos referencing some well-known WWE names like Cody Rhodes, Nick Khan (no relation to AEW’s Owner Tony Khan) and Triple H.
During a new interview with Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour where MJF started it by calling the place a “s**hole,” MJF made it clear that he’s only focused on money.
“Here’s the deal. A lot of people think I’m leaning towards one place or the other. Here’s what I’m leaning towards. Money. That’s all I care about, that’s what I live for. That’s what I live and die by.”
“So I go where the money’s at. Whoever is going to offer me the most amount of money, that’s where I’m gonna go. That could be anywhere. Hell, if there’s some financial backer out there that wants to start his own wrestling company and use me as the figurehead, that’s where I’ll go. It’s that simple. All I care about is money.”
Regarding his return at All Out, MJF was asked if he agreed to a new deal in order to return to television and while he did confirm that, MJF made it clear that he didn’t sign a contract extension.
“I most certainly did, with no contract extension. ‘Cause once again, love Tony Khan to death, ‘you’re my bff [winks at camera] but kinda got the man by the balls because I’m a draw and I’m only 26.”
This coming Wednesday on the September 21 edition of Dynamite, Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson will have a match to crown a new AEW World Champion. Since AEW is the number one contender, he will likely face the winner at some point in the future, so it’s fair to assume MJF will be interested in the winner because he’s got next.
MJF was also in the last news over the last week because he announced his engagement to his fiancee Naomi. Congratulations to the happy couple.
