Mercedes Mone Becomes Highest-Paid Woman In Wrestling

Mercedes Mone AEW

Mercedes Mone has signed a monster new contract with AEW.

On the March 13th episode of Dynamite dubbed “Big Business” Mercedes Mone finally made her AEW debut. The star opened the show in Boston to a huge ovation before laying out why she signed with the company.

Fast forward to the main event and Mone was standing tall after coming to the aid of Willow Nightingale who had been attacked by Julia Hart and Skye Blue.

Much has been made about how much Mone will be earning with AEW after it emerged that as with Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada, the company was prepared to offer significantly more money than WWE.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer quoted an unnamed WWE star who said Mone is now the highest-paid woman in the industry.

“One WWE woman star noted to us that they were hearing that the number was enough to make her the highest paid woman in pro wrestling and that they were thrilled at AEW for making the offer and happy for her to have accepted it, because in the long run it means it’s a better market for the top women wrestlers, noting, “I think it sets a standard that woman should be paid, too. The women do great numbers and have huge social followings” and also said that it was “a huge deal for women in the industry who are paid a lot less than men.”

When Did Mercedes Mone Actually Sign With AEW?

Despite not appearing for AEW until the second week of March, it’s been reported that Mercedes Mone signed with the company several months ago. The report from Fightful noted there were plans for her to debut on January 3rd and January 10th, but at the time she was still not medically cleared to compete.

Mone broke her ankle in a match against Willow Nightingale in May 2023.
