Matt Cardona On WWE Tag Team Run – “It Sucked”
Matt Cardona explained why he “f****** hated” one of his tag team runs in WWE.
During his time in WWE as Zack Ryder, Matt Cardona found tag team success when he became a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion alongside Curt Hawkins.
In 2015, however, Cardona found himself in another partnership when he began appearing in WWE NXT alongside Mojo Rawley. Known as the Hype Bros, the duo were popular among NXT fans, but Long Island Iced Z was less than thrilled with the team.
Speaking in a new interview with Off Her Chops, the former Intercontinental Champion explained that while has no ill will toward Rawley, he didn’t want their partnership to be a long term thing.
“It sucked… At first, it was an opportunity and I took it as an opportunity, went to NXT, alright, let’s f***ing go. Me and Mojo, we both f***ing tried… We were told we were going to be down in NXT for a couple of months and they called Mojo up, but that never happened. So I was doing the WWE schedule, the NXT schedule, then I ended up winning the IC Title at WrestleMania, I’m like, ‘Oh good, thank god.'”
“You’ve Got To Be F****** Kidding Me” – Matt Cardona’s Reaction To Re-Forming The Hype Bros
When Cardona was put on the sidelines due to injury and Mojo Rawley won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania, he hoped their tag team days were in the past. However, when he returned from injury, he was disappointed to find that the Hype Bros were indeed reunited.
“I come back just to be with Mojo again. You’ve got to be f***ing kidding me. It’s nothing against him, I just f***ing hated it.”
