Malakai Black AEW Contract Expiration Date Revealed

Malakai Black AEW

A timeline has been given for when Malakai Black’s AEW contract will expire.

The end of Malakai Black’s AEW run appears to be close. The former AEW Trios Tag Team Champion was referenced in a promo by Will Ospreay on AEW Dynamite in Clarksville, TN. After Ospreay beat Buddy Matthews of the House of Black group, he told Buddy he didn’t need to be with the guys in the group he was in.

After Dynamite, it was also reported that Malakai Black is done with AEW. There were previous reports that Black’s AEW deal would expire in 2027, but it has been reported that those final two years were option years.

It was reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio after Dynamite that rumors of Black being done with AEW were true.

It’s been reported that Malakai’s gone and I know that the rumour backstage is that he’s gone. I did not get that confirmed but I can also say this – I did not get it denied when I asked about Malakai. Basically, it was ignored so it wasn’t denied, I’ll say that.

Black has worked for AEW since July 2021.

When Is Malakai Black Free To Leave AEW?

It has been reported by PWinsider’s Mike Johnson that “Black is believed to be leaving AEW and that he is expected to be a free agent sometime in the area of February/March.” Johnson added that while Black is still under contract to AEW, the belief is that he is done with any future appearances.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that it’s likely that Black will return to WWE where he was known as Aleister Black from 2016 until his release in June 2021.

“There was also talk from WWE that he was expected there when his contract expires. That’s been the case for a while, but evidently there has been talk in WWE creative about him of late.”

Malakai Black returning to WWE likely as Aleister Black means he’ll get to work with his wife again since he’s married to WWE’s Zelina Vega. Vega is a part of the Raw roster as a member of the LWO stable, so it’s possible that Black would be put on the same show as his wife.

During his previous WWE run, Black was used very well by Triple H in the NXT brand as a former NXT Champion, but he was inconsistently booked by Vince McMahon on the main roster. Now that Triple H oversees the main roster in WWE, it’s likely that Black could be a featured superstar on whatever brand he is a part of.
