Maki Itoh Explains If She’d Ever Join WWE

Maki Itoh

Maki Itoh has discussed if she’d ever consider a move to WWE after she made her name in the United States through her appearances in AEW.

Maki Itoh found popularity in her native Japan as part of an idol group, using her characteristics as part of a girl group as part of her wrestling character. Itoh currently wrestles regularly for Tokyo Pro Joshi Wrestling becoming the promotion’s International Princess Champion twice.

Fans of AEW know Maki Itoh through her appearances in the company which began when she was part of the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Tournament back in early 2021. She appeared on The Buy In of Revolution 2021 where she teamed with Dr. Britt Baker DMD to defeat Thunder Rosa and Riho. She wrestled for the company as recently as November 2022 when she teamed with Emi Sakura in a loss to Marina Shafir and Nyla Rose.

Speaking to Steve Fall’s Ten Count, Maki Itoh explained – through a translator – how she wound up part of AEW:

“There was a tournament for the AEW Women’s Championship a few years ago. Maki was introduced to the AEW audience in this tournament in the first round. While unfortunately, she did lose in the first round, everybody really liked her personality as a character, so the team at AEW wanted to bring her in.”

Itoh was then asked if she would ever consider an offer from WWE, but she says that AEW is the place that she wants to stay beside as she feels the company contributed to her popularity:

“No. One of the reasons why she has become this popular is thanks to AEW. Whatever happens, even if WWE gave her an offer from nowhere, she would not accept it and she would just stay beside AEW all the way.”
