Major Update On Santos Escobar’s WWE Future After Return
Santos Escobar’s WWE contract expired on October 7.
Despite initially being involved in contract negotiations and being offered a pay rise, Escobar did not re-sign, letting his contract run out.
WWE also moved his profile to the alumni section of the website.
Santos Escobar was now a free agent and open to accepting an offer from any wrestling company, with rumors about AEW as his next destination doing the rounds.
However, within 48 hours, he was reported to have re-signed with the Stamford promotion. One of the conditions put forth by the 41-year-old was a good creative direction, and seemingly, both parties came to an agreement.
Over the last few weeks, the Mexican star had hinted at his imminent departure through posts on his social media accounts.
His last in-ring competition was at AAA x WWE Worlds Collide in June, where he teamed up with his Legado Del Fantasma stablemates, Berto and Angel, to defeat El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Pagano, and Psycho Clown.
He last wrestled inside a WWE ring on May 2 during a SmackDown episode, losing to Rey Fenix in a singles match.
Santos Escobar Expected To Get More TV Time
Santos Escobar is likely to be featured more in WWE after renewing his contract.
During a recent Wrestling Observer Radio podcast, Bryan Alvarez believed that with the amount of money that the company is now offering him, it will be tough for them to keep him on the sidelines.
Maybe he will… but historically, I can’t think of one person… making that kind of money that’s sitting around in catering, so I think you’re going to see a lot more of Santos Escobar. [H/T: Cageside Seats]
After Escobar’s exit, it was also reported that his stable, Legado Del Fantasma, had disbanded. It will be interesting to see if WWE features the trio as a unit again.
