Lita Feels Like She Has Always Been An Underdog

Lita has explained how she always feels like an underdog even though she’s a WWE Hall of Famer and a current Women’s Tag Team Champion.

During her run as a full-timer in WWE from 2000 until late 2006, Lita was known as a thrill-seeking extreme wrestler that was one of the most popular women in company history and also ended up being a main event heel act. Along the way, she was a four-time Women’s Champion that was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014.

Earlier this year, Lita returned to WWE as an ally of Becky Lynch, who had been dealing with Bayley’s Damage CTRL group that also includes IYO SKY and Dakota Kai.

The duo of Lita and Lynch ended up winning the Women’s Tag Team Titles on the February 27th edition of Raw thanks to Trish Stratus helping them out.

All of this has led to a WrestleMania 39 match being made with Lita, Lynch and Stratus teaming up against Damage CTRL’s Bayley, Kai & SKY.

Despite all of the success she had in her WWE prime and her current success as a Women’s Tag Team Champion, Lita still feels like an underdog in wrestling, which is what she told Forbes in a recent interview.

“I do feel, in general, as solidified as I am and my legacy is, I always felt like the kid that wasn’t supposed to make it. The underdog that nobody believed in. Just wandered my way into the WWE ring. I don’t feel like I was supposed to catch on. And I know that it was the fans that made that happen. I was just going to be a random person who knew how to take bumps to support other people, and then I became so much more than that. That still sticks with me, as far removed as we are, I still feel like the underdog.”

Lita would go on to say that women like herself and her best friend Trish Stratus set the bar, but she wants to show she can compete with today’s talent as well.

“I want you to have no faith in me. I want you to think that my best days are behind me, because I’m going to train that much harder. Even if you don’t want to say that I showed out in the ring, you’re going to have to say ‘I mean, it was okay. I want to exceed the expectations that you didn’t even know you had for me, because you counted me out.”

“I don’t want to look like the weak link, I don’t want the other people in the segment to feel that they can’t depend on me. I don’t want to bring the caliber of the match down. We set the bar, they raised the bar, and I want to be able to go up on that level.”

Recently, Trish Status explained how her WrestleMania tag team partner Becky Lynch has some similar qualities to Lita too.
