LA Knight Targeting Champions In WWE
LA Knight has some champions in mind when it comes to future “dream matches” for the megastar.
It has been an interesting first year for LA Knight on WWE’s main roster. While Vince McMahon had visions of Knight being a manager named Max Dupri, Triple H took over the WWE creative team in late July and quickly brought back LA Knight, who was a star on the NXT brand for a few years.
Prior to his WWE run, Knight was known as Eli Drake and he is a former Impact Wrestling World Champion with two decades of experience as a pro wrestler.
When LA Knight talks, people listen. He has charisma, he has catchphrases (“Yeah” and “Let me talk to ya”) and he certainly has star power. However, Knight isn’t winning matches as much as fans would like to see. Knight lost to Bray Wyatt at the Royal Rumble in convincing fashion while he tends to lose on television quite often.
While Knight did promos about how you can’t have a Los Angeles (LA) WrestleMania without LA Knight in the build to WrestleMania 39, he didn’t appear on the show at all. Apparently, there was an angle for him on the show, but it was scrapped for unknown reasons.
As for the future, LA Knight told KTAL NBC 6 that while the fans may want to see more of him, he has a championship in mind.
“Not only are they looking for me to become world champ sometime soon, but I’m looking to become the WWE Universal Champion sooner than later.”
In addition to that, when LA Knight was asked about a dream match, he made it clear that he is coming after champions in WWE.
“Dream matches, you think about people from the past who aren’t doing it anymore. There are a couple of those. Everyone is talking about it again, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, that makes me look at Roman Reigns. Even GUNTHER, with the Intercontinental Championship, Austin Theory for the United States Championship. Any one of those guys, who I could take a piece of gold off of, that would be my dream match.”
There is good news if you’re an LA Knight fan because a recent report noted that Knight is considered a favorite to win the Money in the Bank briefcase on July 1st. A lot of things can happen before that, but apparently, WWE management is high on the megastar, so perhaps his quest for gold will lead to something soon.
