Kevin Owens Wrestled With Serious Injury At WWE Royal Rumble
Kevin Owens fought through a serious injury at the Royal Rumble.
At the 2024 Royal Rumble, Owens challenged Logan Paul for the United States Championship. Ahead of the bout, Paul had demanded Owens wrestle without the cast that, in storyline, had protected the hand he injured back in November.
Unsurprisingly, Paul focused much of his offensive on the hand during the match to wear his opponent down. However, it wasn’t enough, and Owens kept coming back, even after taking a huge punch to his jaw. Towards the end of the bout, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller made their way to the ring, and while the referee was distracted, Theory was able to hand Paul a set of brass knuckles.
Unfortunately for Paul, Owens was able to disarm him and used the weapon himself to leave him lying. However, KO forgot to remove the knuckles, which were spotted by the referee and led to him being disqualified for his actions.
While Owens sold the ‘injured’ hand throughout the match, a new report has revealed he was suffering from a legitimate injury. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer, KO suffered a fractured foot during his match with Santos Escobar back on the January 5th episode of SmackDown. The star has avoided matches since then, although he has had altercations with Logan Paul in the intervening weeks.
It is currently unknown if Owens will take time off for the injury, or how long it will take to heal.
Kevin Owens Wants Match With CM Punk
Kevin Owens is sure he’ll end up taking on CM Punk. Despite having similar paths through the wrestling industry from the indies to WWE, the two men have never shared the ring. During a recent interview, KO suggested it was only a matter of time before the two former ROH World Champions finally face off.
The match will have to wait for some time though, as CM Punk has suffered an injury that will leave him on the shelf for several months.
