Kevin Owens Told To “Threaten To Quit” Over WrestleMania Snub
Kevin Owens says a very familiar face told him to threaten to quit after missing out on WrestleMania in 2019.
For the last two years, Kevin Owens has gone on last at WrestleMania in two of the most talked about matches in 2022 and 2023.
Owens was the man across from Stone Cold Steve Austin at the end of WrestleMania 38 when their segment turned into Austin’s first match in 19 years. The Texas Rattlesnake and Kevin Owens had a fun brawl with the WWE Hall of Famer ultimately coming out on top.
At WrestleMania 39, both nights were headlined by The Bloodline as on night one The Usos defended the WWE Tag Team Championship against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. This time Owens came out on top alongside Zayn as they walked away from the SoFi Stadium with gold and continued The Bloodline’s decay.
Paul Heyman was on hand to give Kevin Owens his own special counsel
Now speaking to Ariel Helwani of TNT Sports, Kevin Owens has cast his mind back to 2019 when he ended up missing the biggest show of the year, something that led to Paul Heyman telling him he should threaten to quit the company:
“When I wasn’t on WrestleMania 35, a few weeks before, I didn’t not understand why…I understood plans had changed, I was completely fine with it. I was like, ‘what else am I going to do? I can do something else on the show.’ They’re like, ‘Nah. It doesn’t fit there, it doesn’t fit there. It doesn’t make sense.’ It was driving me insane.
“I remember having a talk with Paul Heyman at a show [Raw or SmackDown] near Gorilla (position), and I was losing my mind. ‘Paul, I can’t believe I’m not on WrestleMania.’ He’s like, ‘I can’t believe it either.’ ‘What do I do?’ ‘Just walk in there and threaten to quit.’ ‘No, that’s not how I’m going to handle this.’ ‘If that’s how you feel.’ It was driving me crazy.
“I couldn’t go to WrestleMania 35. I flew to New York, I had some appearances, and I flew back home to watch it with my wife and kids because I didn’t want to be anywhere near it. I flew back the next morning for more appearances.”
Kevin Owens also felt the sting of disappointment at missing out on a major show when he was left without a match at the 2023 Elimination Chamber in Montreal.
