An ex-champion stepped into a WWE ring after 4 years on Tuesday, much to the amazement of John Cena.

Matt Cardona faced John Briggs in a singles match on NXT after General Manager Ava set it up on last week’s show.

During the September 30 taping of NXT, Briggs faced Myles Borne, but in the closing minutes, he attempted to cheat by hitting Borne with the steel chain around his neck.

However, Cardona appeared by the ringside and prevented Briggs from using it, which also resulted in him losing the match after Borne hit him with his Borne Again neckbreaker.

Matt Cardona is currently signed to Total Nonstop Action and is seen on NXT due to WWE’s partnership with TNA.

The 40-year-old’s match against John Briggs was good, but it ended in a loss for him.

During his heel run, John Cena had referenced Matt Cardona on the June 20 SmackDown episode while delivering his own version of the pipebomb after attacking CM Punk.

The 17-time World Champion took to Instagram to share a picture of the former WWE star from NXT on Tuesday.

John Cena Reacts To Donald Trump Question

John Cena was recently approached by a stranger outside an airport when he was with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh.

Cena has experienced such public instances previously as well, and this time around, he reacted in the same way as he has on previous occasions—by shutting them down.

The individual approaching Cena asked The Last Real Champion if he thought that Donald Trump should have won the Nobel Prize.

The 48-year-old refused to entertain the question and immediately dismissed it, saying “No, thank you.”
