John Cena Looked Out For WWE Star After Career-Ending Injury
John Cena wanted to look after an injured WWE star.
As he closes on retirement, WWE stars past and present have been sharing their memories of working with John Cena. This has included never-before-told stories about what he’s like away from the cameras, and most notably, his desire to help others.
On June 1, 2015, disaster struck during a dark match ahead of WWE Raw between Tyson Kidd (TJ Wilson) and Samoa Joe. While taking a Muscle Buster from Joe, Wilson landed awkwardly and suffered a serious neck injury.
The star quickly underwent surgery on his neck and is now able to live a normal life, although he was forced to retire from in-ring competition. However, Wilson is considered incredibly lucky as very few people even survive the kind of injury he suffered, and the vast majority of those who do are quadraplegic.
During an interview back in April, Samoa Joe admitted that he’s still haunted by the incident, adding that he still feels sick over what happened.
Since retiring, Wilson has built an impressive reputation as one of the sharpest minds in the business while working as a WWE producer.
During a new interview with Justin Barrasso of the Boston Herald, Wilson’s wife, Natalya, recalled John Cena making time for him and taking them out for dinner following his injury.
“John is a good friend and a great person. When TJ got injured, John was the one who took the time to reach out. When TJ was recovering, John would call and talk with him. He’d even take us out for dinner. The injury was very emotional and traumatic, but John made TJ felt heard.”
John Cena Looking To End Career As Intercontinental Champion
On the November 10 episode of Monday Night Raw, John Cena beat Dominik Mysterio to become the Intercontinental Champion for the first time.
As a result, Cena has now won every major championship WWE has to offer, finally becoming a grand slam champion.
Cena is now scheduled to appear at Madison Square Garden on November 17, where he’ll wrestle on the red brand for the last time. He’ll follow that up with another match at Survivor Series before wrestling for the final time at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
