John Cena Winning 18th World Title Discussed In WWE

John Cena WWE Night of Champions

John Cena became the 17-time World Champion at WrestleMania 41.

In doing so, he left behind ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, with whom he was tied at 16 championships.

It is now being reported that WWE contemplated putting an 18th world title on Cena before he retires in December at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII.

On the latest RAW episode, CM Punk claimed that he was a fighting champion and believed in giving opportunities to superstars who deserved it.

While at it, he teased giving Cena a chance at winning his 18th major title in WWE.

According to Fightful Select, the company’s creative team discussed bringing the 48-year-old back into the title picture due to Seth Rollins’ injury.

However, they decided to go in the opposite direction, opting for a 16-man tournament instead to determine his final opponent on December 13, 2025, in Washington, DC.

Called the “Last Time is Now” tournament, the event will feature 16 wrestlers from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT competing to advance to the next stages and ultimately earn the right to challenge Cena.

The 17-time champion also revealed that the tournament could feature wrestlers who are no longer associated with the promotion but have had a history with him, thus sparking speculation.

John Cena Vs. Dominik Mysterio At Survivor Series?

John Cena has won many titles in WWE, except the Intercontinental Championship, which has also kept him away from achieving the Grand Slam Champion status.

For a while now, a potential match between him and the current Intercontinental Champion, Dominik Mysterio, is being spoken about.

Dave Meltzer, too, discussed them having a match at Survivor Series:

The fourth match is Dominik Mysterio vs Penta vs. Rusev for the IC title. Mysterio would be the favorite given there was the plan a few weeks ago of John Cena winning that title from Mysterio at Survivor Series and defending against Gunther in his retirement match.
