John Cena Reveals He Rejected Triple H’s Idea For WWE Retirement
John Cena has wrestled his final match on WWE RAW.
On November 17, the 48-year-old teamed up with Rey Mysterio and Sheamus to face The Judgment Day trio of Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Dominik Mysterio.
Cena opened the show, addressing the fans in Madison Square Garden and those watching worldwide, when he was interrupted by “Dirty” Dom.
Dominik demanded a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship, which he lost to Cena last week in Boston.
Although Cena accepted, Dominik said they would have the match at Survivor Series: WarGames.
Soon, a brawl ensued between him and The Judgment Day members, with Sheamus and Rey assisting the 17-time World Champion.
The babyfaces won the bout, with John Cena hitting an Attitude Adjustment on McDonagh for a pinfall.
John Cena Reveals Rejecting Triple H’s Tribute Show
As advertised, John Cena appeared on RAW Recap with Sam Robertson and Megan Morant.
Here, Cena spoke about wrestling in Madison Square Garden for the final time, the Last Time Is Now tournament, and Saturday Night’s Main Event, to name a few.
He also revealed that he rejected a tribute show proposed by Triple H, instead suggesting exhibition matches that highlighted the future talents of WWE.
I really want to take my hat off to Triple H. I called him up and said, ‘I’ve got an idea. We’ve got to do two hours for the show, and if you do a whole John Cena tribute, two things are going to happen: you’ll either do too much or too little, and you won’t please everybody.’ So I rejected that idea.
Instead, I said I’d like to propose that we have big-name WWE Superstars in exhibition matches against the brightest talents in NXT.
That way, we have a sold-out building, hopefully the world is watching Saturday Night’s Main Event, I get to wrestle one final time, and everyone else gets a look at what they can look forward to. Yes, it’s my last match—but collectively, we’re all closing a chapter in sports entertainment. [H/T: Ringside News]
Elsewhere, Gunther and Solo Sikoa advanced to the next round of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament. Sheamus, Rusev, Jey Uso, and LA Knight have already qualified.
On the upcoming SmackDown, Bronson Reed will face Carmelo Hayes, whereas Penta will take on Finn Balor.
