Why John Cena Felt This Is The Right Time For WWE Retirement
2025 is John Cena’s last year as an active wrestler.
Cena will retire at the end of this year, and his farewell match will take place on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. His last opponent will be decided through a tournament that kicked off on Monday Night RAW last week. So far, Rusev, Sheamus, Gunther, Jey Uso, LA Knight, and Solo Sikoa have cleared the first round to advance to the next level.
The WWE Universe is not ready to say goodbye to John Cena, but The Last Real Champion has made up his mind. Time and again, he’s announced that 2025 will be his last year as an active competitor in the wrestling territory, and he wishes to hang up his boots for good this year. But why retire in 2025?
John Cena Wants To Leave The WWE Universe With Good Memories
In a recent interview with ESPN‘s Stephen A. Smith, Dan Orlovsky, and Shae Cornette, John Cena revealed why he chose to retire from active competition in 2025. He stated he wants to retire on his own terms. He doesn’t want to be remembered as someone who stuck around for so long that his body gave up on him inside the ring.
“I still got a little bit left in the tank, as you saw in those highlights. I’m 48, I still look good, I feel good, I have my health. But man, I’ve been in it for 23 years and operating at a very high capacity and very high level.
And I really want to pave a way for the future, and I’d rather go now and leave the memories with the audience, like, ‘Man, he always gave his all’ than risk doing bad work.”
When the hosts did the “You Can’t See Me” hand gesture, Cena reacted to that. “Yeah, I want to be invisible a few more times, and that’s it. It’s been a great year, and I’m very happy to pass the torch to what I think is an extremely capable class of men and women.”
