John Cena’s rivalry with Kevin Owens is one for the ages.

Their feud, while short-lived, was captivating and began with the veteran putting over the newbie after the latter debuted on WWE’s main roster.

On May 18, 2015, Owens answered Cena’s United States Championship open challenge. However, instead of wrestling, Owens, who was then NXT Champion, hit a Pop-up Powerbomb on Cena and stomped on the US title.

This set up a match between the two at the 2015 Elimination Chamber in a Champion vs. Champion match. To everyone’s surprise, The Prizefighter defeated Cena cleanly.

Their feud carried on for two more pay-per-views, as John Cena defeated Kevin Owens at both Money in the Bank and Battleground.

In 2022, the unlikely duo teamed up and faced The Bloodline’s Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn in a tag team match during the December 30 SmackDown episode and secured a victory.

John Cena Acknowledges Kevin Owens

John Cena is on his retirement tour, with his last match scheduled at the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event.

On the tour, the 48-year-old has fought multiple old nemeses and paid tribute to those whom he did not. Kevin Owens belongs to the second category.

During the September 5 episode of SmackDown, Cena accepted Sami Zayn’s challenge for a singles match.

Cena pulled out a variety of moves on Zayn, paying homage to some of his past challengers, one of which included Owens, with Cena hitting the Pop-up Powerbomb on his opponent.

Recently, Owens, who is injured and recuperating after surgery, dressed up as John Cena for Halloween, reciprocating his respect for the legendary performer.

Cena, too, caught a wind of it and shared a picture of Owens dressed as him on his Instagram account, thus acknowledging his gesture.
