Jim Ross Admits Recent AEW Moment Made Him Uncomfortable

A recent violent spot during an AEW match was uncomfortable to watch, according to legendary announcer Jim Ross.

As the lead announcer during WWE’s Attitude Era and somebody with over 50 years of experience in pro wrestling, AEW’s Jim Ross has seen it all in the business that he loves.

During the Blood & Guts match that took place on the July 24th edition of AEW Dynamite in Nashville, there was a controversial moment in that match. That moment involved Mark Briscoe using a steel chair to hit Jack Perry in the head with the chair shot. At the time, Perry was handcuffed to the steel cage surrounding the ring so there was no way to block the chair shot.

There have been theories about the chair being gimmicked to soften the blow. The Young Bucks were on Perry’s team in the match with Nicholas Jackson saying Perry was fine after the chair shot.

On a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross said he understood the concerns about the incident while making it clear he thinks the chair shot wasn’t needed.

“I can understand people’s concern, and by and large, I agree with them. I was uncomfortable with it, to be honest with you. But I understand why it was done, I understand the environment that were in on that show. When I saw it watching it here at home, I was mildly shocked that it came from such velocity and harmful intent.”

“Thank god I think they only used it once if I remember correctly, so it was … it’s tough, man. It’s how far do you go? What’s too much? What’s not enough? I would just suggest that there are ways to get the same violence without scrambling a guy’s brains.”

Jim Ross Interviewed Swerve Strickland On AEW Dynamite

Over the past few years, Jim Ross has cut back his AEW announcing duties significantly due to health issues. In June, JR took a trip to the emergency room due to breathing issues.

The good news is that Jim Ross is doing better since he appeared on AEW Dynamite this week to interview AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland. That appearance by Ross also led to some fans being concerned about JR’s health since he appears to be very skinny and perhaps weaker than what he used to look like. We all wish JR good health in the future.
