WWE star Jacob Fatu is currently out of action because of an injury.

Fatu was scheduled to face Drew McIntyre in the October 17, 2025, WWE SmackDown main event to determine the No. 1 contender for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship. However, just before the match, he was mysteriously attacked backstage and found lying beneath a scaffolding, bleeding from the mouth and with several of his teeth on the floor. This attack forced him out of the match.

Drew McIntyre denied any involvement in the attack. Despite his denial, WWE General Manager Nick Aldis questioned McIntyre about it. Cody Rhodes accused McIntyre of orchestrating the attack, expressing his anger over Fatu being taken out just for a title opportunity. Rhodes then immediately challenged McIntyre for the WWE Championship, and the two engaged in a heated match.

During the match, Cody Rhodes, frustrated and angry, intentionally disqualified himself by hitting McIntyre with the championship belt. This caused the referee to call the match in McIntyre’s favor, but the fight continued after the disqualification.

WWE analyst Sam Roberts Predicts A Huge Push For Jacob Fatu

Sam Roberts examined the angle on a recent episode of his Notsam Wrestling podcast. He discussed the whole scenario and predicted who might have been behind Jacob Fatu’s attack. He also stated that when Fatu returns to action, he’s going to be a huge deal in WWE and will probably get a main event push.

When Jacob Fatu comes back, it truly is all gas, no breaks. When Jacob Fatu comes back, I think it’s time for the push. I think it’s time for the potential to be realized. I think it’s time to see if everything that we think is there is there. It’s time to put Jacob Fatu into the main event scene when he’s back. Because not only are we ready to see him in the main event scene, but he’s going to be missed while he’s gone. And it’s going to be a big deal when he comes back. (From 21:38)
