Hulk Hogan Details The Day He Decided To Quit Drinking
Hulk Hogan has embraced sobriety.
The legendary wrestler recently turned 70 years old and made the decision to give up alcohol at the start of the year.
Speaking with Muscle and Health, Hogan revealed it was New Year celebrations that prompted him to make the decision, not liking what he saw around him:
“About seven months ago, I decided not to drink any more alcohol. I was at a New Year’s Eve party and saw a bunch of stuff that I didn’t condone or like. I saw myself in this environment, and I went, ‘You know what? I don’t know how I got here, but I’m done.’ It was just that one thing.”
Having drinking buddies for a number of decades, some of The Hulkster’s friends did not agree with the former WWE Champion’s new lifestyle choice. Hogan continued, stating that he would not let the pressure make him want to revert back to his partying days:
“I’ve had certain wrestlers look at me in the face and go, ‘If you don’t have a drink with me, you’re not my friend,'” Hogan said. “Well, I am your friend, but I’m not going to drink with you. What are you going to do about it?”
Will Hulk Hogan Ever Wrestle Again?
With a career including 12 World Championships in WCW and WWE and main eventing WrestleMania 8 times, Hogan’s final match could be considered rather underwhelming by some.
Ending his in-ring career at a UK house show with TNA, Hogan has previously stated that he would be open to one more match in WWE to retire on his own terms. Looking back on his 40-plus-year career, Hogan has previously admitted that he should have stopped competing after 20 years in the business.
Not everyone looks back on Hogan’s career as fondly as the thousands of Hulkamaniacs around the world. One former WCW employee blasted the former WWE Champion in an interview, describing Hogan as a “personality-disordered sociopath.”
