Huge AEW Title Change At Spring BreakThru
AEW Spring BreakThru marked a huge milestone in the company’s history and that show saw a major title change take place.
AEW Spring BreakThru saw Dynamite overtake WCW’s flagship Nitro show in terms of number of episodes as Tony Khan’s company sails past a milestone some never thought possible.
That show proved to be stacked with huge matches as the Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments continued and two big title matches took place.
The Hurt Syndicate successfully defended the AEW Tag Team Championship against the Gates of Agony but another title changed hands later in the show.
PAC suffered an injury, which led to Jon Moxley replacing him in the Death Riders team as the AEW World Champion partnered with Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta to defend the AEW Trios Title against The Opps – Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and HOOK. However, another spanner in the works was announced at the start of the show as commentary revealed HOOK had been taken out by the Death Riders and was unable to compete.
When The Opps came to the ring, however, they had their own suitable replacement as Powerhouse Hobbs joined Joe and Shibata.
New AEW Trios Champions Crowned
A wild match ensued that saw Willow Nightingale get involved as she took a chair away from Jon Moxley and later got physical with Marina Shafir. The Young Bucks also made their presence felt but were taken out by Swerve Strickland after they screwed Strickland at Dynasty.
In the end, Samoa Joe locked the Coquina Clutch in on Jon Moxley, making the AEW World Champion pass out with the referee stopping the match and new AEW Trios Champions were crowned.
