Gable Steveson Facing An Uphill Battle In WWE
One WWE star has broken down what Gable Steveson needs to change to succeed.
Gable Steveson arrived in WWE with huge fanfare given his long list of achievements in amateur wrestling. While WWE was hoping it had unearthed another Kurt Angle, the reality has been a little different.
The Olympic Gold Medalist signed with WWE in 2021, but it wasn’t until July 30th, 2023 that he made his in-ring debut. On the big night, Steveson wrestled Baron Corbin at NXT’s Great American Bash and was booed throughout the match which ended in a double countout. Steveson hasn’t appeared on WWE television since.
Appearing on Notsam Wrestling, Corbin gave his assessment of Steveson’s struggles and hinted at what he needs to change.
“He has an uphill battle,” said Corbin. “Man, when you have a pedigree of gold — it’s like anybody who comes up and thinks they are going to be the next Rey Mysterio. No, it’s not going to happen, sorry. There will never be another Rey Mysterio. I don’t care who you are or where you come from.
It’s the same as WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. So, if you want to compare yourself and talk about the gold and do all of that, you’re never going to live up to the bar in front of you, because no one is going to be better than Kurt Angle at what he did. No one. He’s one of the best in the history of this business.”
Gable Steveson’s WWE Future Unclear
Following Steveson’s match at the Great American Bash, it was announced he would be heading to the amateur wrestling World Championships. However, he later withdrew. Despite this, Steveson is yet to return to WWE television and all talk of his progress has gone quiet.
The most recent report on Gable Steveson’s future noted that things are being kept under wraps. The star has continued to wrestle at NXT live events, with his most recent match coming on December 2nd against Brooks Jenson.
