Did Edge’s Social Media Promo Affect WWE World Title Plans?

Edge WWE World Title

Edge has indicated that his days in the wrestling ring are numbered and a new report has indicated whether or not his recent online video had any effect on the WWE World Heavyweight Title tournament.

Triple H introduced the new WWE World Heavyweight Title ahead of the WWE Draft noting that whichever brand did not get Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns would instead have a new world champion – when all was said and done, Reigns remained on SmackDown, meaning Raw would get the new title.

A twelve-man tournament was set although eyebrows were raised when SmackDown stars were involved despite the newly reinforced brand split.

On Raw, Seth Rollins overcame a triple threat match involving Damian Priest and Shinsuke Nakamura to move on to the semi-final where he squared off with Finn Balor. In the end, it was Rollins who picked up the win over the Irish star, moving on to Night of Champions where the new champion will be crowned.

On SmackDown in Knoxville, Tennessee, Rollins found out his opponent for the title with AJ Styles upsetting the field to move on to the tournament final. But Styles’ fortunes surprised some.

Edge has released a heartfelt video on social media prior to Friday’s show where he hinted towards retirement in his near future but first, he wanted to win the new title. That had many predicting that Edge was going to reignite his feud with Seth Rollins at Night of Champions but that wasn’t the case.

Fightful Select has now reported that the decision to have AJ Styles move on to the tournament final was already made before Edge’s video that caught fire online was released.
