Drew McIntyre Wins, Then Loses World Championship Gold At WrestleMania

Drew McIntyre WWE

Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania dreams were shattered yet again.

Within seconds of the opening bell, McIntyre hit a Claymore which Rollins barely kicked out of. He then followed that up by hilariously grabbing his phone at ringside to tweet “Bored at work. LOL!”

For his part, Rollins was a broken man by the time he even entered the ring, not only feeling the effects of a grueling World Title reign but a hard-hitting match the night before.

The match had two recurring themes, Rollins’ desire not to quit, and McIntyre’s attempts to rattle CM Punk on commentary at every opportunity.

At the end of a wild brawl, Rollins’ resolve was finally broken by yet another Claymore, but there were more twists to come.

When all was said and done, both men were moved to tears. Rollins a broken man, and McIntyre finally getting to celebrate a WrestleMania win in front of fans. However, those celebrations quickly came back to haunt him.

McIntyre mounted the announce desk to taunt Punk, and eventually, the former AEW star snapped, attacking the new champion with his arm brace. With McIntyre vulnerable, Damian Priest cashed in his Money In The Bank contract, hitting McIntyre with the briefcase, before hitting a South of Heaven Chokeslam to become World Champion for the first time.

With the title won, Priest celebrated with Judgment Day at the top of the ramp.

Drew McIntyre Threatened To Quit If He Lost

Speaking at the WWE World panel ahead of WrestleMania, Drew McIntyre said he’d quit if he couldn’t beat Seth Rollins.

This threat played into speculation that McIntyre could leave altogether. For the best part of a year, his WWE future has been a hot topic of discussion, and there were even claims he and the company were some distance apart when it comes to agreeing terms.

However, was reported in March that WWE expects Drew McIntyre to stay.

Drew McIntyre booked his shot at Seth Rollins with victory inside the Elimination Chamber. However, the Scot has taken on the side mission of antagonising CM Punk at every opportunity. It was during a clash with McIntyre that Punk sustained the triceps injury that has currently confined him to the sidelines.

It has also been reported that Punk was originally scheduled to be in the spot McIntyre found himself in.
