Dominik Mysterio has come out with the truth about his rib injury.

The Intercontinental Champion was scheduled to defend his title against AJ Styles at Night of Champions on June 28.

However, on the preceding RAW, General Manager Adam Pearce informed Styles that their match was being called off due to a rib injury sustained by Mysterio.

His appearances at house shows in Mexico were also pulled off to prevent exacerbating the condition.

In the subsequent weeks, WWE created segments that showed the injury as a work. The 28-year-old frequently kept running into Styles but showed him a ‘doctor’s note,’ thus dodging him.

On the July 21 episode, Dominik Mysterio hit AJ Styles with the belt, setting up their match at SummerSlam. He retained his title at the premium live event.

Recently, he has allied with El Grande Americano in a lead-up to a four-way AAA Championship match at Triplemania on August 16.

Dominik Mysterio’s Rib Injury Was Legitimate

Dominik Mysterio appeared on the latest episode of the Club 520 Podcast, wherein he confirmed that his rib injury was legitimate but was presented differently to suit the storyline.

I dislocated my two lower ribs and they were digging into my cartilage. So that was why I was actually hurt. Everyone thought I was faking it, but I was actually hurt. [H/T: Wrestling Observer]

Dominik also recalled suffering the injury first during a match against Edge after executing a frog splash.

After reporting about breathing difficulties, the doctor confirmed he had a pneumothorax.

On the latest episode of RAW, Dominik Mysterio teamed with El Grande Americano to face Dragon Lee and AJ Styles.
