Details Revealed On When Vince McMahon Could Launch New Wrestling Company
Vince McMahon is no longer a part of WWE, but the temperamental billionaire could theoretically launch another wrestling promotion in the future as details emerge about what that could look like.
After spending 40+ years of his life building up Word Wrestling Entertainment to be the pro wrestling/sports entertainment powerhouse that it became, Vince McMahon is no longer a part of the company.
The reason why McMahon is no longer part of WWE is his own doing. Vince McMahon has been accused of sexual assault and sex trafficking as part of a lawsuit filed by a former employee Janel Grant, which has stunned people associated with WWE. Due to that lawsuit along with his other misdeeds that involved nearly $20 million in hush-money payments, Vince McMahon was told to resign as Executive Chairman of TKO by parent company Endeavor as WWE moves into a new era.
Vince McMahon has denied the allegations made by Grant and plans to fight back against her claims.
That new era of WWE was pushed heavily at WrestleMania 40, which was the first of 40 WrestleMania that took place without McMahon being at the show. It was made clear that this new era of WWE is being led by Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan, as well as others in their management team.
In an SEC filing on April 12th, it was revealed that three shareholders have made stock available for sale. Most notable in that group was Vince McMahon, who has made available 8,021,405 shares. Those are the remaining shares that the billionaire still owns.
What that means is that if Vince McMahon does sell the full amount of his remaining shares – which at the close of the stock exchange on the 12th of April is valued at more than $786 million – it would officially put an end to WWE run that saw him run the company for over 40 years after purchasing it from his father.
Could Vince McMahon Launch His Own Wrestling Promotion?
At 78 years old, the thought of Vince McMahon running a pro wrestling company again may seem ludicrous, but he could legally do it in January 2025. That’s according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, who wrote about it in a subscriber-only article.
“While my belief is that McMahon is done in wrestling, given he’s 78 years old, from a legal standpoint he does have a one-year non-compete ends in late January 2025. He can, at that point, start up a new promotion.”
“Since the word got out, I’ve had discussions and other communications with some of the most prominent people in wrestling regarding the possibility that he gets back into wrestling, something that has been his life since starting to work for his father as a promoter in the late 1960s.”
“My own feeling, which is shared by the majority of those I have talked to, is that McMahon is done due to the combination of his age, reputation and lack of openings.”
As Vince McMahon used to say, “anything can happen” in WWE and it certainly happen in his life too.
