Decades-Long Real-Life WWE Beef Finally Settled

Two WWE veterans have settled their issues.

Ahmed Johnson was flying high in mid-1996. He’d been crowned Intercontinental Champion at King of the Ring (The first Black star to win the title) while regularly sharing the ring with the likes of Shawn Michaels, Vader, The British Bulldog, and Owen Hart.

However, that momentum came to a shuddering halt in July when a debuting Faarooq Asad (Ron Simmons) attacked Johnson on Raw. Unfortunately for Johnson, during the angle, he suffered a legitimate kidney injury.

This caused him to miss out on a planned World Title match, and he was forced to vacate the Intercontinental Title while sitting on the sidelines for four months.

Following the injury, Johnson blamed Simmons for ruining his career, and the real-life heat between the pair has lasted for decades.

As recently as 2023, Ahmed Johnson claimed that Simmons had injured him deliberately as an act of jealousy. He went on to claim that the injury not only cost him a match with Shawn Michaels for the World Championship, but also a run with WWE’s top prize.

Despite the bad feeling that has been ingrained in their relationship for almost three decades, it seems that Simmons and Johnson have finally settled their differences.

During an appearance on The Wrestling Classic podcast, host Justin Dhillon referenced a recent photo showing the two men posing together. In response, Simmons confirmed that the pair are now on good terms.

“Man, look, there are differences that we’ve had, which happens in this business, right? Look, it’s been time to set that stuff aside and let it go.

You know, look, the track record with us right now, man, as everybody knows, not good. You know, with us, leaving, losing a lot of friends and everything. Look so hey, why not? Let’s be on the same page with everything and enjoy these days.”

Simmons added that he and Johnson initially reconnected over shared interests.

“And know, and it’s good to talk with my brother and get back to talking about some things that we love, yeah, and that’s just fitness and other things in life. So, yeah, so everything’s good.”

Although he returned to action after his kidney injury, Johnson’s WWE career never hit the same heights, and he competed in his final bout in the company in February 1998 at In Your House: No Way Out Of Texas.
